On the occasion of the 58th La Biennale di Venezia curated by Ralph Rugoff- the Pino Pascali Foundation presents ” Pino Pascali- From Image to Shape”. The artist was one of the major representatives of Italian Pop Art and Arte Povera. Fifty years after his death, this exhibition presents an original and astonishing interpretation of his production by placing his photographic research side by side with his sculptures and videos. The exhibition, curated by Antonio Frugis and Roberto Lacarbonara with the artistic direction of Rosalba Branà, is part of the program of the Collateral Event to the 58th La Biennale di Venezia.
The show take place in Palazzo Cavanis, Fondamenta delle Zattere (Dorsoduro 920).
Moreover, the project represents an important opportunity for numerous institutions and cultural foundations to work together. The exhibition will be running until the 24th November 2019. Throughout the whole duration of the exhibition, the Pino Pascali Foundation will organise a program of events in partnership with cultural institutions whose goals and approach is in line with the Pino Pascali Museum intents: The National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome, The Teatro Petruzzelli Foundation, The Apulia Film Commission, the Consortium of the Apulian Public Theatre, Apulia Promotion, Putignano Carnival Foundation, the Association of Libraries and Museums in Brindisi and Lecce, the Association in Defence of Books, the Paolo Grassi Foundation- Valle d’Itria Festival, the Di Vagno Foundation, The Apulian Academy of Fine Arts.
On the 15th and the 16th of May from 11 am to 1 pm and from 3 pm to 5 pm, the Foundation will hold the Papier Mache workshops: Pino Pascali and the colours of the sea, organised in collaboration with the Putignano Carnival Foundation at Palazzo Cavanis. The workshops will be dedicated to all those who wish to do something “hands on” and to give shape to small papier mache creations while being surrounded by the magical world of the oldest Carnival in Italy and the longest in Europe.
The workshop will be led by the artists Domenico Galluzzi, Angelo Loperfido, Vito and Paolo Mastrangelo who, together with other artists from the town of Putignano, create gigantic and spectacular floats. The artists will also illustrate the different steps in the creation of a float and will help the workshop participants to make small papier mache creations based on the theme of the sea and inspired to the artist, Pino Pascali.
This two day long event with the Putignano Carnival is part of the program of collateral events of the exhibition “Pino Pascali. From Image to Shape” curated by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Polignano a Mare. In addition to the papier mache workshops, Palazzo Cavanis will also host a series of events dedicated to the contamination of various contemporary languages. The common thread of these events is contemporary art, starting from Pino Pascali’s work and 1960’s art to then touch upon music, cinema, dance, theatre, literature in collaboration with the network of cultural partners to the exhibition “Pino Pascali- From Image to Shape.
